A crisp winter breeze rushes through my hair – at more than 40 miles per hour. No, I’m not cruising the mountains via convertible this winter. I’m experiencing the area in a whole new way – and taking in some incredible views – on a zip line in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains!
There are many ziplines in Sevierville and the surrounding Smoky Mountains area. While each of them offers something different, they will all leave you feeling like you’ve taken on the world! Here are four tours to help you get familiar with some of the area’s zipline options. Find a complete list of zip line attractions here.
1628 Parkway Sevierville, TN 37862
About: Nine zip lines (some up to 2,000 feet long) on a 70 acre nature park make for an incredible adventure just off the Parkway in Sevierville (literally – it’s across the street from Tanger Five Oaks Factory Outlet Center). While this attraction is easy to find, it’s certainly not a “city slicker” kind of place! Once you cross the ridge at Adventure Ziplines, it’s like a whole other world. You’ll enjoy great views and feel comfortable working with their friendly staff.
What’s Different? Adventure Ziplines is part of the Adventure Park at Five Oaks complex. There you can also challenge yourself with the exciting Tree Tops Ropes Course (think ziplines plus swinging planks to cross, ladders to climb and even tight ropes to walk).
What else can I do? Try the horseback trail ride. Their 30 minute and hour-long tours let you appreciate this area’s natural beauty a little closer to the ground.
3757 Thomas Lane Sevierville, TN 37876
About: This seven zip line canopy tour is situated on a 150 acre farm just outside Sevierville, TN. The tour begins at Base Camp with an introductory 60′ zip line and progresses to lines ranging from 600’ to 1,500’ and incredible views of the Smoky Mountains! You’ll zip over a historic Civil War Iron Mine and more on this awesome tour. Afterward, stroll across America’s Longest Swinging Bridge or grab some food at Zippin’ Pig BBQ. (On some lucky occasions, you may even get to see their large Rube Goldberg -style ice cream maker whipping up a batch of creamy goodness). Feeling really adventurous? Take on The Goliath…five of the longest (2230’) and highest (475’) zip lines east of the Mississippi.
What’s Different? Foxfire Mountain has a great vibe – it’s almost like a little settlement. With a cute restaurant, great themed general store, whimsical gardens and corn hole boards on the lawn for all to enjoy, you can easily while away an afternoon there after your adventures end.
What else can I do? Oh, how about taking a rugged Bear Crawler ATV tour to a historic Civil War Iron Mine, waterfall and 19th century graveyard all the while splashing through creeks and up and over steep mountains. Then cross America’s longest swinging bridge and make a wish in the wind (get your tissues ready and read more about that here).
2431 Upper Middle Creek Rd
Sevierville, TN 37876
About: Seven ziplines (up to 2,500 feet long) wind across and through pristine woods on more than 400 acres to create the longest zipline in America. This is also among the highest zipline attractions you’ll find in the area, with some lines stretching 450’ above the ground. Legacy Mountain Ziplines provide absolutely gorgeous views of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
What’s Different? The height and length of the lines will earn you bragging rights – you’ll have taken on the longest zipline in America and gotten a birds-eye view of the Smokies! But don’t let that intimidate you – their guides are supportive and – as with all these zip line attractions – safety is a priority.
What else can I do? You’ve conquered this zip line and seen some amazing views. Now celebrate with some professionally shot souvenir photos of your time on the line! These are available in the gift shop.
