Tennessee Museum of Aviation
When you visit the Tennessee Museum of Aviation you never know what you might see! A majority of the vintage aircraft displayed in the museum is airworthy so the “warbirds” come and go frequently. However, according to the Tennessee Museum of Aviation, “[We are] said to be the only place in the country to house two airworthy P-47 Thunderbolts. There are less than a dozen World War II “Thunderbolts” currently flying in the world.” In addition to seeing the incredible aircraft on display, guests also have the opportunity to hear veterans share their stories. If you are an aviation enthusiast or simply want to learn more about these incredible vintage war planes and the men and women who flew them, you should pay a visit to the Tennessee Museum of Aviation. You can also ask about the Museum’s group tours and other special trips on their website!
Rainforest Adventures Discovery Zoo
This special zoo in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains is home to over 600 exotic animals that represent rainforests from all over the world! According to the zoo, “Since opening in June of 2001, RainForest Adventures has delighted millions of visitors. RainForest Adventures has thrived and has become an exciting regional destination and one of the finest small zoos in the country with hundreds of animals representing 140 different species.” Guests can see reptiles, mammals, birds, amphibians and bugs at this unique zoo right here in our hometown of Sevierville. Popular among school groups, this is a fantastic (and educational) activity to do with the kids!
One of America’s most spectacular underground caves, Forbidden Caverns is a must see attraction in the Smokies. Hundreds of years ago this underground cave was used by Eastern Woodland Indians as a shelter during the harsh winter months. This unique destination in the Smokies holds a lot of rich history, from the legend of an Indian princess who got lost in the caves to a safe place to make moonshine during the 1920s. Not to mention the underground sight is incredible! This is definitely an attraction you want to add to your list of things to do because of the beauty and the educational opportunities.
